Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday launched the Sokoto-Niger Republic International Transport Service to enhance trade and economic activities between the two countries.


Speaking at the Central Motor Park, Sokoto, as part of activities to mark the democracy day, Tambuwal said the transport service owned by a private company , would facilitate the movement of goods and passengers between Sokoto and Niger republic.

According to him, investing in transportation is very critical in driving the economy to prosperity.

He noted that Nigeria and Niger republic share some similarities in trade and economic activities propelled by the common border existing between them.

“This development will further foster better and sustainable economic ties and promote trade with beneficial gains. “It will also genuinely boost our social relations, understanding and productivity,” he said.

The governor to this end, distributed furniture, beds, mattresses and books to schools across the state and inaugurated the newly dualised Agaie road and 3.2km NNPC Mega station –Mabera-Salame.

Tambuwal also witnessed the graduation ceremony of 630 women in various vocational skills, where he described the gesture as the beginning of self reliance for women.

He urged the women to avail themselves of the opportunity to build their future with a view to becoming self-reliant. The governor added that his administration was committed to the provision of infrastructure across the state for the benefit of the people.

The activities which would run through Friday, June 1 , also include the commissioning of 60 offices and Library complexes at the Sokoto State University, inspection of 500 trucks of fertiliser and drilling of 1,000 tube wells respectively.

This is in addition to the inauguration of General Hospitals in Dogon Daji and Silame councils, inspection of Shagari Urban water scheme and Sifawa primary health centre.

Tambuwal was supported by his Nigerien counterpart, Governor of Tahoua, Abdourahman Mousa during the inauguration of the projects. to More
